Lookout Trend vs Hypertrend Primary Software: LookoutPrimary Software Version: 5.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: What is the difference between using the Trend and Hypertrend objects in Lookout? Solution: Both of these trending objects in Lookout allow you to display a real-time plot of any number of numeric or boolean object values, but they do work quite differently. Trend: The Trend object can not display historical data, so you do not need to log to a historical database to display data. You can display trend graphs in various colors with different styles and grid spacing. Right-click a Trend object to modify the chart appearance. Trend objects save trend line data points to the Lookout state file (.l4t) periodically as defined in the System Options dialog box, and any time you close your process file or exit Lookout. For this reason, you do not lose the plot lines shown on your trends if you exit Lookout or if your computer crashes. Hypertrend: The Hypertrend object provides instant access to both real-time and historical data in a single graph. For each plot line the HyperTrend object combines real-time and historical data into a seamless, continuous trace of data. Refer to Chapter 8, Logging Data and Events, in the Lookout Developer's Manual for more information about logging historical and real-time data. Historical data accessed from the HyperTrend object is stored in the Citadel database. Summary: To display data you do not want to log to disk, use the Trend object. To display both real-time and historical data, use the Hypertrend object. Related Links: Attachments:
