How Do I Create a Shared Multisim Component Database?

Problem:
There are several users that use Multisim in our company. Is there a way to create a database where everybody can share components?

Solution:
There are three levels of database in Multisim. The Master Database contains all of the read-only components that are shipped with Multisim. The User Database is where custom components can be created and stored for personal use. The Corporate Database allows custom components to be created by individual users, and can be accessed by anyone over a network. This is the ideal solution for sharing components between several users.

With each Multisim installation a Corporate Database is saved to a specific folder (depending on the Multisim version and operating system). To set up the Corporate Database for your company:
  1. Locate (see paths below) and copy the database file to a network drive.
  2. On each machine which requires access to this database, open Multisim and select Options»Global Preferences.
  3. Select the Paths tab and redirect the Corporate Database path to the shared network drive.

 The locations of the Corporate Database file are:

  • Multisim 9 on Windows 2000/XP:
\Program Files\Electronics Workbench\EWB9\database\CPComp_S.prj
  • Multisim 10.0 (and later) on Windows 2000/XP:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite\10.1\database\CPCOMP_S.PRJ
  • Multisim 10.0.1 on Windows Vista x86/x64:
\Program Files\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite\10.0\database\CPComp_S.prj
  • Multisim 10.1 (and later) on Windows Vista x86/x64:
 \ProgramData\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite\10.1\database\CPComp_S.prj

Note: In Multisim 10.x, the Application Data (on XP) and ProgramData (on Vista) folders might be hidden. To view the directory, select Show hidden files and folders under Folder Options » View in Windows Explorer.
