Lookout Software Options

Primary Software: Lookout
Primary Software Version: 6.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I know that National Instruments Lookout is the easiest to use HMI/SCADA software on the market, but it looks like I have several different options to choose from when ordering. What are the differences between each option and which should I choose?

Solution: Below is a table of the different options and part numbers you can choose from.

Part NumberDescription
777320-x1 Lookout Development/Run-Time Server Products
777321-x1 Lookout Run-Time-Only Server Products
77904x-03 Lookout Client Connection Licenses Products
777324-91Lookout Integrator Software

Note: The Lookout Enterprise systems (P/N 778100-x1 and 778101-x1) are obsolete and have been replace by a Lookout Development/Run-Time Server or Lookout Run-Time Server with 4 Client connection licenses.

Depending on your needs, there are several considerations to keep in mind when deciding what to order:

Client-Server Connections
A Lookout server is what communicates to the hardware, and then sends that information to any client computer that is connected. A client connection license is required for every computer connected to the server. Each web client connection also uses a client license. The client connections licenses are installed on the server computer.

Desired Number of I/O Points
Any information that is passed into or out of the Lookout software environment is an I/O point. All server options can be purchased with configurations of 50, 100, 200, 500, or unlimited I/O points. For more information on I/O points, see the knowledgebase article linked below.

Run-Time Options
Both clients and servers are available as run-time software, meaning that there is no edit mode or development capablilty. These are useful when distributing an application that has been developed and tested, with no further editiing needed. Run-time servers are also good for creating redundant, or back-up systems. The run-time client software is a free installation, and included on every Lookout server CD. For more information on the differences between Lookout server, client and run-time copies, see the knowledgebase article linked below.

Integration Software
As shown in the table above, there is also integrator software available for Lookout. This includes 1 client license with unlimited I/O and it is limited to 3 hours of continuous use. This is primarily designed for a Lookout developer who only needs to create a process which will eventually run on different computers with Lookout client/server software installed.
