Error -1074388479 With the NI-9853 Module for CompactRIO

Problem:
I am running one of the shipping NI-CAN examples for the NI 9853 or 9852 module, and I get Error -1074388479. What does this error mean, and how do I get rid of it?



Solution:
This error means that the NI-CAN driver is unable to find the CAN database you are referencing in the application. The NI-CAN driver on the cRIO loads a CAN database file containing channel information when called. This requires you to explicitly download your CAN database to the cRIO with Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) or FTP. If you don't, this error is thrown. To download the CAN database to your cRIO with MAX, follow the steps below:
  1. Open MAX and expand the Data Neighborhood tree
  2. Right-click CAN Channels and select Send to RT System
  3. In the dialog box that pops up, enter the configuration you want to send and the IP address of your CompactRIO controller
  4. Enter the user name and password if any, and select Send
