PCI-8212, PXI-8211, and PXI-8212 Show I/O Resource Conflicts With Certain MotherboardsHardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-8212
Problem: When using the PCI-8212, PXI-8211 or PXI-8212 on an Intel 815 or 820 based motherboard (including Dell XPS series, Gateway E 1400 - 4400 series), Windows 2000 reports an I/O space conflict between the DEC 21150 PCI-to-PCI bridge and the 82801 Processor to AGP controller. If the actual I/O ranges are compared, there is no I/O space conflict. Solution: This problem happens only under Windows 2000 and XP. This is a known bug between the Intel 815/820 chipset BIOS and the Intel 21150 PCI-PCI Bridge. The problem is discussed on Microsoft's Web Site, linked below. Essentially, the BIOS does not set ISA enable bit in the bridge on the motherboard, which is a peer to the AGP controller. There are four possible solutions. 1. Upgrade your BIOS. Intel has released BIOS updates for both the VC820 and the D815EEA motherboards. They are linked below. However, if you are using a Dell or Gateway computer, you cannot use this BIOS. You must obtain a manufacturer-specific BIOS upgrade from Dell or Gateway. 2. Switch to another operating system (Windows 95, 98, Me, NT). 3. Use a PCI Video card. 4. Switch to a different motherboard (not a VC820 or D815EA).
