Problem: How should I assign the group numbers for digital I/O applications using the 653x ? Solution: In the 653x User Manual, the reference to groups is Group 1 and Group 2. This does not mean that in your LabVIEW application, you can only provide the group inputs as 1 and 2. In LabVIEW, the group number inputs can be any number from 0 to 15. If you are using two groups in your LabVIEW application, you can name them as (0,1), (1,2), (0,10), (4,9), and so on. All of these are valid combinations. For example, assume that you are using Port 0 and Port 1 as input and Port 2 and Port 3 as output in your application. Using the Digital Group Config VI, you can combine Port 0 and 1 under Group 3 and Port 2 and 3 under Group 10. Alternatively, you can combine Port 0 and 1 under Group 10 and Port 2 and 3 under Group 4. The basic point is, the group input in the DIO Config VI is not related to the hardware group. Also, it is not a required input if only one group is used. Only when both the hardware groups are used should unique numbers (0-15) be assigned to the group inputs of DIO Config VI.
