Broadcast Your LAN Wirelessly with WAP-3701

Hardware: Instrument Connectivity Other>>Ethernet>>NI-WAP-3701

Problem:
How can I configure my Wireless Access Point (WAP) 3701 to broadcast my local area network (LAN) wirelessly?

Solution:
Follow these steps to broadcast your LAN wirelessly:
  1. Plug-in and reset the WAP-3701 by holding down the reset button until the lights go off.
  2. Connect the WAP-3701 to your computer via ethernet cable. You can use a straight-through or a cross-over cable.
  3. Open the Local Area Network TCP/IP settings of the computer: go to Start Menu»Settings»Control Panel»Network Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties.

Select Use the following IP address and type in 192.168.127.X for the IP address, where X is any integer below 253 and above 0. Leave the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0.
  4. Open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.127.253
For Username and Password, enter admin and root respectively.
  5. Click the General on the menu at the left, and choose Operational Mode. Confirm that AP / Bridge is selected. Click Save.

  6. Click the TCP/IP link on the menu at the left, and choose Addressing. Confirm that Set Manually is selected as method of obtaining an IP address. Click Save.
  7. Change the IP address to a static IP address located on your internal network's subnet. Typically you will want to ask IT for an unused IP address, or use an IP scanner (like Advanced IP Scanner) to find an available one. To find the subnet mask and gateway of the internal LAN network, click the Start Menu on one of the computers on the network. Select Run » cmd. When the console window opens, type ipconfig. Take note of the subnet mask and gateway. Enter these in the WAP settings. Click save.

  8. Click the DHCP Server link on the left of the WAP-3701 setup screen, confirm that the Functionality is Disabled. If you don’t see the link, it’s already disabled.
  9. Click IEEE 802.11 on the menu at the left, and choose Communication. Confirm that AP functionality is Enabled.
  10. Type a name for your network in the Network name (SSID) section. Click Save & Restart.

  11. Wait 10 seconds, then connect the WAP-3701 to your LAN via ethernet cable.
  12. Connect to your network wirelessly with your computer.
  13. You should now be able to access the network. To modify the settings of the WAP, navigate to the IP address you chose in the TCP/IP Addressing section of the configuration. The username and password should still be admin/root. For additional troubleshooting, see the 3701 WAP User Manual below.
