PXI Controllers - File Transfer Limit

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers

Problem:
I'm attempting to move 11,565 files from my PXI controller to a removable disk. I am only able to transfer 128 files before an error box appears, stating "The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue." All 11,565 files total 210 MB, and the removable disk is supposed to have a capacity of 512 MB. The removable disk has the following content values after the cut and paste process: Capacity = 489 MB, Used = 3.09 MB, Free = 486 MB. Why can't I copy these files over into the "Free Space" that remains?

Solution:
Many times, removable disks have a limit of files per depth of folders. In this case, it is very likely your removable disk has a limit of 128 folders per level. The following are suggested as storage methods to work around this limitation:

  1. Create a folder hierarchy
  2. Zip the files or store them together in a larger file
  3. If the particular issue is transferring a large number of VIs, you could store them in a LabVIEW LLB
Any method that limits the folders per level to 128 or fewer will work.
