NI USB-232/2 Not Recognized by Windows XP

Hardware: Serial>>RS-232>>USB-232/2

Problem:
I have a NI USB-232/2 and the NI-Serial 3.4 driver installed. However, when I plug in the USB device, Windows doesn't recognize it. I also have an NI USB-232 which is recognized correctly by the same system. Why is this and how can I fix it?

Solution:
The NI USB 232/2 is seen by the operating system as a composite device. In order to have it recognized correctly, you should have the files usb.inf and usb.PNF in C:\Windows\infdirectory.

If you're missing those files, follow these steps to fix the problem:
  1. Copy the attached files usb.inf and usb.PNF into C:\Windows\inf.
  2. Uninstall NI-Serial.
  3. Re-install NI-Serial.
  4. Plug in the NI USB 232/2 device and it should now get recognized correctly.
