NI OPC Servers Compatibility with LabVIEW Versions Prior to LabVIEW 8.5

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers

Problem:
I have LabVIEW 8.2.1 and would like to use NI OPC Servers to connect to my programmable logic controller (PLC). When I attempt to add the OPC server to my LabVIEW project, no servers are displayed. Why are no servers available?

Solution:
NI OPC Servers replaced IA OPC Servers with the release of LabVIEW 8.5, which is the earliest version of LabVIEW to support NI OPC Servers. LabVIEW versions prior to 8.5 cannot connect to NI OPC Servers, which is why the server will not be displayed as an I/O Server in a LabVIEW 8.2.1 project.

Originally, NI OPC Servers could only connect to LabVIEW 8.5 through the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) Module. This means there is no native support for NI OPC Servers with DataSockets in LabVIEW 8.5. To allow communication between NI OPC Servers and LabVIEW 8.5 without the DSC Module, download the NI OPC Server 1.0 LabVIEW 8.5 Connectivity Update. Beginning with LabVIEW 8.5.1, this update is no longer needed.

If you would like to use an OPC server from National Instruments with LabVIEW 8.2.1, you will need to use IA OPC Servers. Refer to the OPC Device Connectivity page for a list available drivers for your device.
