PXI Star Triggering Capabilities of NI-Scope Hardware

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-SCOPE
Primary Software Version: 3.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Modular Instruments>>High-Speed Digitizers (Scopes)

Problem:
What are the PXI star triggering capabilities of the National Instruments high-speed digitizer products (e.g, NI 5102, NI 5112, NI 5911)?

Solution:
The PXI star trigger is a feature implemented on National Instruments' PXI chassis. The first requirement for using a star trigger is that the hardware is in a PXI form factor (PXI module).

NI PXI-5102:
  • The NI PXI-5102 can receive triggers from the PXI star trigger line. This means that if another instrument is driving the PXI star trigger from slot 2 of your PXI chassis, then your NI PXI-5102 can receive this trigger signal from another slot.
  • The NI PXI-5102 cannot drive the PXI star trigger line from slot 2. This means that if you want to generate a trigger on the star trigger line with a master in slot 2, this master cannot be a NI PXI-5102. The 5102 can only receive star trigger signals...it cannot generate them. The NI PXI-5102 can generate trigger signals onto the RTSI trigger lines, but not the PXI star trigger line.
NI PXI-5112:
The NI PXI-5112 can send (in slot 2) or receive PXI star trigger signals. This board has no limitations as far as PXI star triggering is concerned.

NI PCI-5911:
This board currently does not come in a PXI form factor.
  • NI PXI-5114
  • NI PXI-5122
  • NI PXI-5124
  • NI PXI-5142
  • NI PXI-5922
  • NI PXI-5152
All of the above boards can receive trigger signals from the star trigger lines, but they can't drive the star trigger from slot 2.
