Why Does LabVIEW Crash when I Use the Quanser Rapid Control Prototyping Toolkit on an RT Target?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: 2013
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
When using the Quanser Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) Toolkit and the Control Design & Simulation (CD&SIM) function on a Real-Time target, running a VI that has not been compiled properly causes LabVIEW to crash. How can I avoid this?

Solution:
There is a bug with the NI Control Design and Simulation Toolkit, which the Quanser RCP toolkit uses, wherein polymorphic subsystems do not always compile properly when dragged from a Windows target to a RT target. This crash only occurs with VIs running on RT targets. It results in the following error message from LabVIEW Crash Reporter:

Exception: Access violation (0xC000005) at EIP=0x00FE5E80.

This can be avoided by forcing LabVIEW to recompile code before running on the RT target. There are two ways to achieve this:

  • Simultaneously press <Ctrl-Shift> and left-click the Run button to force the entire hierarchy to recompile.
  • Mass Compile the code through the environment.
This issue is documented by Corrective Action Request #358717. This behavior does not affect the underlying stability of running code but only affects the deployment of code to RT targets.
