Maximum Update Rate of the [c]FP-DIO-550

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Discrete I/O Modules>>cFP-DIO-550, FieldPoint>>Discrete I/O Modules>>FP-DIO-550

Problem: The data sheet for the other Digital Output FieldPoint modules lists that the all channel update rate is 20 kHz, and that the update rate for the Digital Input modules is 1 kHz. What is the maximum update rate for the [c]FP-DIO-550, Digital Input/Output Module?

Solution: The update rate on the [c]FP boards is represented by the inverse of the propagation delay of the field programmable gate array (FPGA) and other electrical components on the digital board. This value corresponds to how quickly the board can read or output digital data, depending on the operation (Digital Input/Digital Output). For the [c]FP-DIO-550, adding up all of the propagation delays demonstrates that this device is capable of a maximum update rate of 10 kHz, for both input and output operations. The ability of the [c]FP controller to supply digital data at fast rates will determine how much of this performance is actually achieved.
