DIAdem INSIGHT Error: Could Not Be Added To The AVI Control Primary Software: DIAdemPrimary Software Version: 2.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: When attempting to add an .AVI file to a scene (.cis) or when attempting to play a presentation (.cip) in INSIGHT I receive an error saying: "Could Not Be Added To The AVI Control!" Why is this occurring and how can I resolve this? Solution: This error usually occurs when the .AVI file you have added to the scene or presentation was created using the Indeo codec and you are running the file on Windows XP SP2. INSIGHT, CLIP and the INSIGHT-CLIP player all unpack .AVI files included in presentations to a temporary folder and then try to run the video from that location. As of Windows XP SP2, Microsoft has disabled running .AVI files with the Indeo codec from a temporary directory, thus preventing the video from running and causing INSIGHT to display an error message. To resolve this error, you will need to convert the .AVI file to use a different codec for its encoding. This can be done with a number of video-editing utilities including Adobe Premiere as well as VirtualDub. As of version 2.04, INSIGHT supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding (MPEG-4 must be saved as an .AVI) in addition to the Cinepak codec. The example videos that ship with INSIGHT use the Cinepak codec. When converting a .AVI that uses the Indeo codec, NI recommends converting the video to the Cinepak codec before attempting to convert to a newer MPEG format as issues have been seen when converting a file from Indeo directly to MPEG-4 and attempting to run the video in INSIGHT.
