Can I Use a Fully Qualified Hostname for a Client Computer Within the NI Volume License Manager?Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License ManagerPrimary Software Version: 1.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I would like to use software that is granted permission to run by the NI Volume License Manager. I know I have to fill in the computer name in the NI Volume License Manager and that the name is case-sensitive. Are there other format restrictions? Solution: The computer name of the client computer should not contain periods or spaces. Therefore, a fully qualified computer name (such as computer1.department.company.com) will not work. Instead, using the name before the first period would be a better solution. If you are ever not sure of the computer name, there are two ways to check. First, right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. On the "Computer Name" tab it should list the computer name. Another method would be to let the NI Volume License Manager show you the name that the client computer identifies itself with. To do this, first enable the debug log within the NI Volume License Manager by going to Options»Preferences. On the Policies tab, choose "Enable Debug Log". Then on the client software, try to launch a product which looks to the NI Volume License Manager for the right to launch. This will create an entry in the debug log which shows the computer that requested a license and the license it requested. You can find the debug log at <National Instruments>\Shared\License Manager\Bin\lmgrd.log. In the file, there will be a line near the bottom that will show the user and the computer that requested a license. This will appear in the format of "username@computername".
