Communication Lines Not Supported by National Instruments Isolated Serial Boards Hardware: Serial
Problem: Which communication lines are not supported by National Instruments isolated serial boards? Solution: The isolation is achieved through optocouplers, which are rather expensive. It is for this reason that 8-port boards do not come with isolation. Also, since these boards are most commonly used in industrial applications, where certain handshaking lines are not used, the following lines are not supported by the isolated version of the serial boards: DSR, DTR, DCD, and RI. This information can be also found in the "Connector Descriptions » DB-9 Connector" section of the Serial Hardware and Software for Windows Help file.
