Downloading Custom FPGA Code onto PXI-6653 Alongside Existing Personality Hardware: Switches, PXI/CompactPCI>>Platform Modules>>PXI-6653
Problem: I would like to download some code onto the FPGA of the PXI-6653. If I do this will it overwrite the existing default personality on the device? I need to be able to access the different PFI lines, etc on the PXI-6653 device from my custom FPGA code. Solution: Downloading your own FPGA bitstream will not overwrite the existing personality on the FPGA for the PXI-6653 device. It will exist alongside the default personality, giving you access to the PFI lines and other functionality built in the default personality. The default personality gets stored into the on-board flash. So whenever the device is booted up, the FPGA is cleared completely and loaded with the default personality from the flash. This means that you will not be able to store your FPGA bitstream in the on-board flash as you would be able to do with other FPGA targets, such as the PXI-7831R device, since the default personality already occupies it.
