How to Import a TestStand XML Report into Microsoft Excel 2003 with Proper Formatting?

Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: 4.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have generated an XML report by running my TestStand sequence. I would like to use this XML report inside Microsoft Excel 2003. Is there any way I can import this XML report into Microsoft Excel 2003, so that the XML report in Microsoft Excel 2003 will have proper formatting?

Solution:
The default security level of Microsoft Excel 2003 prevents the XML report from being displayed with proper formatting. Thus, this security level must be modified.

  1. Launch Microsoft Excel 2003. Go to Tools » Options.

  2. Click on the Security tab.

  3. Under this tab, click the Macro Security button.

  4. The default security is High. Set this to either Medium or Low and click OK.

  5. Click OK to exit the Options window.

  6. Open the XML report in Microsoft Excel 2003. A pop-up window with the heading Import XML appears. Select Open the file with the following stylesheet applied (select one). Note that the XML stylesheet is the same as the one used by TestStand.

  7. Click OK to continue.

  8. Microsoft Excel 2003 will now display the XML report in Excel format. The rows and columns will be displayed with proper formatting. An example is shown below.
