Difficulty accessing PXIe-8130 BIOS Setup Utility with some USB Keyboards.

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-8130

Problem: USB devices are sometimes not detected during POST, or cause POST to hang. Examples of devices that are not detected (or otherwise cause issues) are keyboards and flash drives. When the failures occur, the USB device usually needs to be removed and re-added to enable the system to detect it. Sometimes, rebooting the system (soft or hard) will "fix" the problem.

Solution: With some USB keyboards, it can be difficult to access the BIOS Setup Utility by pressing the "DEL" key during the initial boot sequence. If you encounter this problem, the following steps can be taken to work around this issue:
  • If other USB devices are present, remove other USB devices and reboot the system. Try pressing "DEL" to enter the BIOS Setup Utility with other devices removed.
  • Try a different USB port.
  • Try a different USB keyboard.
Once you are able to access the BIOS Setup Utility using one of the available workaround, you can change the "USB 2.0 Controller Mode" setting (BIOS Setup Utility>>Advanced>USB Configuration>>USB 2.0 Controller Mode) to 'HiSpeed', as this may increase BIOS keyboard compatibility for some USB keyboards. Please note that this issue does not affect USB keyboard operation within the operating system (Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc.).
