Receiving Procedure Entry Point Error in CVIRTE.dll with LabWindows/CVI

Primary Software: LabWindows/CVI Development Systems>>Base Package
Primary Software Version: 8.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have developed a LabWindows/CVI application that runs fine on my development computer. However, when I attempt to run my application on a target computer, I receive several errors saying: The procedure entry point [...] could not be located in the dynamic link library cvirte.dll. What's this error mean and how can I fix it?

Solution:
This error message indicates two possible scenarios:

Scenario 1

The version of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine that is installed on the target machine is older than the version of the LabWindows/CVI environment with which the application was developed on. Ensure that the LabWindows/CVI Run-engine is at least the same version as the development environment.

Determine the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine version by browsing to the <Windows>\System32 directory and checking the cvirte.dll file.   Right click on cvirte.dll and select Properties, select the Version tab, and the File version is the Run-Time engine version.

Update the Run-Time engine by either repairing LabWindows/CVI (Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs » National Instruments Software) or by installing the latest version of the Run-Time found on the Drivers and Updates website.

Scenario 2

Multiple versions of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine exist on the system. Although multiple versions of the LabWindows/CVI development environment can be installed, only one version of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine should be installed.

Windows searches for DLLs in the following order:
  1. The directory where the executable module for the current process is located.
  2. The current directory.
  3. The <Windows>/System32 and system directories.
  4. The <Windows> directory.
  5. The directories listed in the PATH environment variable.
Search for copies of cvirte.dll in those directories and verify the versions are the same. If multiple versions are found, delete all versions except for the latest one.
