Problem: I need some help with configuring and programming a switch application using NI-SWITCH. Where can I find documentation? Solution: An initial introduction to switching and how to install your modules is available on line at Product Manuals: NI Switches Getting Started Guide. This document is a great guide to getting your switch installed and then using Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to test the module. There is a brief discussion of programming the Switch Module and connecting signals to it, but a more in depth source of information is the NI-SWITCH Help File. The latest NI-SWITCH Help File is a comprehensive document that describes the fundamental and advanced terminology for using a National Instruments switch module. It also provides reference material and tutorials for programming the switch module using NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Microsoft Visual C++, and Microsoft Visual Basic. This includes support for scanning applications using an NI DMM. The NI-SWITCH Help File is also the most efficient source of information about the physical characteristics of all NI Switch Modules. This information includes relay information, available topologies, and connector pinout diagrams based on those topologies. If you have the NI-SWITCH driver installed, then you can locate the help file on your system at Start » All Programs » National Instruments » NI-SWITCH » Documentation » NI Switches Help. If you do not have the NI-SWITCH driver, you can download NI Switches Help and extract the files to the same location mentioned above. The download includes a switch.chm file, which is the same file that can be accessed on your system with the driver installed.
