Why Does My CompactRIO Controller Not Appear in MAX after Installing NI-VISA 4.2 or Later?

Problem:
I recently upgraded NI-VISA and can no longer see my CompactRIO controller(s) in MAX. What could be the problem and how can I fix this problem?

Solution:
This is a known incompatibility with NI-VISA and NI-RIO. During the installation of NI-VISA 4.2 or later on a machine with NI-RIO version earlier than 2.3 already installed, you will get a warning about upgrading to NI-RIO 2.3 or later. Failure to install NI-RIO 2.3 or later results in the inability to discover CompactRIO controllers in MAX. To resolve this, you can either:

1. Install NI-RIO 2.3 or
2. Install an earlier version of NI-VISA
