Creating a FieldPoint Task in VI Logger

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>VI Logger
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Utility Software>>Measurement & Automation Explorer
Hardware: FieldPoint, Compact FieldPoint

Problem:
I am trying to create a FieldPoint task in VI Logger but cannot find the FieldPoint module I would like to use. How should I set up VI logger to take data from a FieldPoint module?

Solution:
To log data from a Fieldpoint module you must have two things: VI Logger Full, and a saved .IAK file for your FieldPoint system. Only the VI Logger Full edition supports FieldPoint tasks; VI Logger Lite does not support aquiring data from FieldPoint modules. To check if you have VI Logger Full activated, run NI License Manager from Start » All Programs » National Instruments To correctly set up and use VI Logger with your FieldPoint system, follow the following steps:
  1. Open Measurement and Automation Exporer (MAX) from Start » All Programs » National Instruments and expand Remote Systems.
  2. Right-click on your FieldPoint system, and then click Find Devices.

  3. On the next screen, either accept the default name, or enter your own name for your FieldPoint system. This is the name that MAX will use to identify your FieldPoint system.

  4. Expand Data Neighborhood, right-click on FieldPoint Items and select Save. This will save your configuration file so that VI Logger can access it.

  5. Right click on VI Logger Tasks and choose Create New... Then select Using FieldPoint from the list of Task types, and click Finish to accept your choice.

  6. Choose the tab FieldPoint Channels in your task, and expand the directory on the left until you see the list of channels on your module in the right-hand pane.
  7. Select the channels you want to log by clicking the Log Enabled? boxes for those channels. Each channel selected should turn blue in the left hand directory pane.

  8. You can now set up any remaining parameters you require, and then click Run Task in the upper left to start aquiring data.
