Using the PXIe-1075 Chassis with the PXIe-8360 or PXIe-8370 MXI-Express Remote Controllers

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-PCIe8372, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-8370, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-PCIe8362, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-PCIe8371, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXIe-PCIe8361

Problem:
I am controlling my PXIe-1075 chassis with either the PXIe-8360 or PXIe-8370 MXI Express controllers. I noticed that the chassis may intermittently appear or disappear in MAX between reboots of the host PC, or I am not receiving trigger signals between PXIe cards after verifying that the software and hardware configuration is correct. What is wrong and how do I fix the problem?

Solution:
To confirm that this solution applies for your case, please verify that the following criteria is met:
  1. You are using a NI PXIe-1075 chassis
  2. You are using either a NI PXIe-8360 or NI PXIe-8370 MXI-Express controller to control the PXIe-1075 chassis
  3. The MXI-Express controller(s) have serial numbers that are lower than EB0000 or were purchased before June 2008
The following kit part numbers contain either of these two controllers:
  • P/N 779700-01 NI PXIe-8360
  • P/N 779701-03 NI PXIe-PCIe8361
  • P/N 779702-03 NI PXIe-PCIe8362
  • P/N 779720-01 NI PXIe-8370
  • P/N 779721-03 NI PXIe-PCIe8371
  • P/N 779722-03 NI PXIe-PCIe8372
The PXIe-1075 chassis leverages SMBus multimastering, and a firmware update is required for all NI PXIe-8360 or PXIe-8370 cards purchased before June 2008 to make them compatible with this change. All NI PXIe-8360 and PXIe-8370 cards and kits purchased after June 2008 do not require this update.

To apply the update, follow these steps:
  1. The patch requires the LabVIEW 8.5 Run-Time Engine. Verify if you have the runtime engine already installed by navigating to Control Panel »Add or Remove Programs»National Instruments Software»NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.5.
  2. If you do not have this software installed then download it by visiting www.ni.com/support and searching for the appropriate run-time engine in Drivers and Updates
  3. Once the run-time engine is installed, download the attached MXI_Update_for_PXIe-1075.exe file to the host PC that is connected to the PXIe-1075 chassis via the MXI Express link
  4. Run the executable to apply the firmware update to the remote controller. The update will remain intact on the controller even after moving it to a different system.
Note: The chassis and controller must be identified by MAX in order to apply the patch. If you cannot get the chassis to show up, then try rebooting the host and re-run MAX, or try a different host PC.
