Problem: How do I install a PCMCIA DAQ board in Windows NT using the Card Wizard 5.10.x Socket Driver?
Solution: Before you physically insert the card you must manually add the hardware in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). The following steps explain how to add the card in MAX:
- Once MAX is open, right click on the Devices and Interfaces folder and select "Create New" from the pop-up menu.
- Choose the DAQCard that you are installing from the list of hardware that appears and click Finish.
- Assign the correct slot number and available resources to the device.
Note 1: Slot 0 maps to PC Card Socket 1, and Slot 1 maps to PC Card Socket 2.
- Shut down the PC and insert the card into the appropriate slot. Restart the PC and Card Wizard will detect your device and the correct drivers for it.
- Ensure that Card Wizard correctly configured the device by double clicking on the Card Wizard icon in the taskbar . You would see a window similar to the following:
- Launch MAX and hit F5 to refresh the device configurations.
- To test the board, right-click on the device name and choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu. It should bring up the following window:
- Click on "Test Resources". You should see a dialog box that says, "The device has passed the test."
If you do not get this message, make sure that the correct and available resources were allocated to the device. To check the resources of the devices under Windows NT, go to the "Resources" tab under the Windows NT Diagnostics (Start » Programs » Administrative Tools (Common) » Windows NT Diagnostics). The device should show up as NIPALK. This will show the system resources allocated to the DAQCard.
Note: If you write your code using application software and you get bad readings, run the "Test Panels" under MAX to test the signals as seen by the board.
