SETUPLDR: COULDN'T OPEN DRIVE MULTI(0)DISK(0)FDISK(0) error message Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VXI/VISAPrimary Software Version: 1.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI>>VXI Controllers>>VXIpc-850
Problem: Windows NT installation, whether booting from a WinNT boot disk or potentially installing from a network, may exhibit the following error message on a VXIpc-850 and VXIpc-745. SETUPLDR: COULDN'T OPEN DRIVE MULTI(0)DISK(0)FDISK(0). This problem shows up when you upgrade an 850 to NT4.0. On a normal NT4.0 installation, the installer will make 3 floppy disks where the first is an NT boot floppy. The problem is due to the particular model of floppy drive used. NT4.0 bypasses the BIOS to access the flopp and the floppy has a problem with this. We have switched to a new version of the floppy that works properly. Solution: Access the Windows NT CD and execute WINNT /B from the \I386 directory. This process will copy the WinNT installation files to the local hard drive for installation. Procede with normal Windows NT installation. To access a CD ROM, keep reading: Boot from a DOS floppy with the CD-ROM device driver. Autoexec.bat and Config.sys must contain the following command lines to properly execute this process. AUTOEXEC.BAT: a:\mscdex.exe /D:PROCD01 CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=a:\minicam.sys DEVICE=a:\cdrom.sys /D:PROCD01 Make sure the SCSI cable and CD player are functional and properly connected. After booting, access the Windows NT CD and execute WINNT /B from the \I386 directory. This process will copy the WinNT installation files to the local hard drive for installation. Procede with normal Windows NT installation. Certain VXIpc MITE based controllers are using the TEAC Model FD-04HF-1300 floppy drive which is apparently a known problem to Microsoft as mentioned in their Knowledge Base File. In addition, we were also informed by AMI (BIOS manufacturer) that they are also aware of this problem. VXI R&D will be replacing this floppy drive model to overcome this problem. VXIpc-850 PNs affected are 183466D-xx, 183466E-xx, 183466F-xx, 183466G-xx and 777366A-xx. The VXIpc-850 and VXIpc-745 (WinNT 4.0 kits) do not exhibit this problem when booting from the supplied WinNT 4.0 boot disk. The boot disk is already a DOS bootable with the necessary CD-ROM device drivers. as compared to the WinNT 3.51 boot disk which is an NT OS bootable. Related Links: Attachments:
