Error -89140 When Routing a Signal for a DAQmx Device In a PXI Real-Time System

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DAQmx
Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>E Series

Problem: I am writing a data acquisition application in which I will like to share the analog input sample clock to the analog output so both operations are synchronized. I am routing the signal as it is shown in the example program PID Control-Single Channel.vi that comes with the LabVIEW Real-Time module. This is in a PXI system running LabVIEW RT. However, when I run the VI, I am getting error -89140. How can I fix this?

Solution: Error -89140 occurs because the PXI system has not been identified correctly under Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). To verify it, follow these steps:
  1. Open MAX and find your PXI Real-Time system under Remote Systems.
  2. Expand Devices and Interfaces and locate the entry PXI System.
  3. Right-click over it, select Identify As and choose the correct controller (i.e. PXI-8170).
  4. A new subentry will appear under the PXI System, labeled Chassis. Right-click over the chassis entry as well, select Identify As and choose the correct chassis (i.e. PXI-1000B).
  5. Hit the Save button on the top of the screen.

Your VI should run now. If you still experience problems getting the routing section of your VI to work, try running one of the shipped examples that come with LabVIEW RT to verify that the routing functions are called correctly.
