How Can I Have NI Software and NI VLM Installed on the Same Computer?Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License ManagerPrimary Software Version: 1.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I installed National Instruments software that uses NI License Manager on my computer. My computer is also my NI Volume License Manager server. Instead of activating my software product, I need to check out a license from NI Volume License Manager. How can I do this? Solution: In order to configure your software to get a license from NI Volume License Manager instead of activating the software, open NI License Manager (Start»Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager). Then go to Options»Preferences. Select the option to "Use Network License Servers" and enter "localhost" in the server field. This will configure any licensed software to first look for a local license already installed in NI License Manager, and then look to NI Volume License Manager for a license. Note: If using Volume License Manager 1.0, your NI VLM license file must contain all the products that you wish to use. If you do not do this, you will probably get an error saying "The Requested License File is Unavailable on "localhost"." If you use NI VLM 2.0 or higher, you can have some software licensed through NI VLM and some software that was activated on the same computer. This was not previously possible with NI VLM 1.0.
