What information does DIAdem store in the hardlock?

Primary Software: DIAdem
Primary Software Version: 8.10
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: DIAdem

Problem: What information does DIAdem store during runtime in a hardlock that was used with a DIAdem version previous to DIAdem 9.0?

Solution: This is a statement regarding the storage of customer data in DIAdem dongles (hardlocks); either local hardlocks or network hardlocks.

For licensing purposes, DIAdem versions previous to DIAdem 9.0 may use Aladdin Knowledge Systems hardlocks that contain memory. Part of this memory (96 bytes of EPROM) is written at National Instruments before shipping. The other part of the memory (26 bytes of non-volatile RAM) is written during DIAdem runtime.

The EPROM data contains the following customer-related information:
  • License number
  • Customer name
The non-volatile RAM is used to store license usage related data only, in order to prevent tampering with the license. No customer-related data is stored, neither data that is input by a user nor data that exists anywhere in the system.

In the event of a hardlock being returned to National Instruments by a customer, all memory, including the EPROM part, will be erased.
