Preparing a Test Executive Sequence for Deployment

Problem: How do I prepare a Sequence for use with the Test Executive executable?

Solution: All callback and test VIs that are intended for use in a Test Executive Run-Time system must be saved with their hierarchies to a new location, either a directory or a library. These must then be saved on the test station computer.

When available, use the Save Test Executive VI for Distribution option:
  1. Select Project » Test Executive » Utilities » Save Test Executive VI for Distribution.

  2. Select the Test Executive VI that you want to save for distribution and click OK.

  3. Using the file dialog box, choose a new location for this VI and its subVIs. You can create a new directory or library at this time.

  4. Choose whether to save the VIs with or without their diagrams. Choosing to save them without their diagrams will make the resulting file smaller, but you will not be able to edit those VIs later.

  5. LabVIEW then saves your Test Executive VI and all of its subVIs (excluding those VIs already present in the Test Executive engine) into the directory or library specified in step 3.

  6. Use LabVIEW to mass compile the resulting VI library or directory.

For versions of Test Executive where this option is not available, use the following procedure (see the related KnowledgeBase entry, linked below):
  1. Launch LabVIEW and create a new VI.

  2. Place all necessary sequence VIs as sub VIs in the block diagram.

  3. Choose File » Save with Options and choose the "Development Distribution" option, making sure that you check the "Include vi.lib files" option. Click OK and name your library. You will need to include this file in the same folder as your sequence.

Note: You must follow this procedure for every VI required to create a complete Test Executive. This includes:
  • All System Callback VIs and default Sequence Callback VIs specified in your .ini file.
  • All Sequence Callback VIs and Pre-Run/Post-Run VIs needed by any sequence that you will execute with Test Executive Installation.
  • All test VIs needed by any sequence that you will execute this Test Executive installation.
