Communicate With an HP 5890 Using NI GPIB Hardware Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers, GPIB>>External Controllers/Convertors
Problem: I have an HP 5890 and want to communicate to it through GPIB. I will be using Agilent's ChemStation software for programming and would like to use a NI GPIB Interface. Is this possible? Solution: National Instruments GPIB hardware can be used to communicate with the HP 5890. In order to use ChemStation to do this, the GPIB board will need to be configured according to the instructions in the ChemStation installation guide. The Agilent I/O Libraries I/O Config will need to be used to configure the NI GPIB Device. To configure the Device correctly, do the following:
Note: Your board must have the SICL Interface name set to "hp82341" even though you are using a National Instruments board. Your board should be configured now and available to use with ChemStation. For further detailed instructions or instructions specific to certain versions of ChemStation, please visit Agilent's website. If LabVIEW is being used, there are drivers available through the NI Instrument Driver Network. These drivers can be used to develop a LabVIEW application to communicate with the instrument in place of using the Agilent ChemStation software. The 5890 does not communicate using SCPI commands. See the attached .txt file for a list of commands for interfacing with this instrument. Since *IDN? is not recognized by the 5890, it will not show up correctly in MAX, even though you can communicate with it properly through test panels. The 5890 will respond to ![]() Related Links: KnowledgeBase 20KG1C7Z: Using NI (GPIB) and Agilent/HP (HPIB) Controllers in the Same System NI Instrument Driver Network Agilent Technologies Attachments:
