Problem: I have an RT PXI Controller whose hard drive has become fragmented and appears to be affecting my application's performance. Are there any RT disk utilities to defragment my drive? Solution: Since all National Instruments PXI Real-Time Controllers use the FAT file system developed by Microsoft, the disk tools provided with earlier versions of Windows work very well. The Windows 98 boot disk contains both FAT16 and FAT32 versions of the defrag utility. If your controller has a floppy drive you can use it to boot from, otherwise you can use a USB based device such as a floppy drive, CD drive, or bootable USB storage device. Follow the instructions in the KnowledgeBase article linked below on how to create a bootable USB storage device to run the utility.
