Monitoring [c]FP-20xx I/O from More than Eight Host Computers

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 6.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems, Driver Software>>NI-FieldPoint
Hardware: FieldPoint>>Controllers/Network Modules

Problem:
When I monitor an ethernet bank with more than eight computers for an extended period of time (>18 hours), I lose communication with the controller.

Solution:
When an ethernet controller communicates with more than eight different IP addresses (from computers, routers, or other FieldPoint banks) simultaneously on the same subnet for an extended period of time, the controller will stop communicating. This issue affects only the module's ability to serve data over the network. It will not affect LabVIEW RT applications or any other network communications, such as FTP or the TCP/IP VIs.

To monitor a bank with more than eight computers for an extended period of time, use a router. If the router is installed properly, computers communicating through the router appear as one IP address to the controller, allowing for a large number of computers to access the FieldPoint bank.

To monitor a bank with more than eight computers:

    1. Install a router between the FieldPoint bank and the systems monitoring the bank.
    2. Install the FieldPoint bank on a different subnet from the systems monitoring the bank.
Please note that up to seven systems can monitor the bank on the bank's subnet.
