How Do I Programmatically Retrieve My Computer ID?

Primary Software: NI License Manager
Primary Software Version: 3.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
How can I programmatically retrieve my Computer ID used by NI Licensing without using NI License Manager?

Solution:
With the release of National Instruments License Manager 3.3, you may programmatically retrieve the Computer ID using the GenerateComputerId executable.

The executable, generateComputerId.exe, will return the Computer ID when called from the command prompt. Note that National Instruments software is not required to be installed to run this utility.

You may find generateComputerId.exe at <National Instruments>\Shared\License Manager\Bin\

This executable allows you to view your computer ID from the Command Prompt, however, if you don't already have the Command Prompt open, the window will only flash open and then immediately close. To work around this, you must first open the Command Prompt, then drag and drop generateComputerId.exe into the window and hit Enter to have the computer ID displayed.

With this utility, the user may automate activation for National Instruments software. For further information, please reference to the topic Automating Activation in the National Instruments License Manager 3.3 Help.  You can do this by going into National Instruments License Manager, Help » Contents and go to the Index tab and select activation, automating.
