IMAQ Read LCD VI does not Find the Correct ROI

Problem:
Even though my image has good contrast, the IMAQ Read LCD VI does not find the correct region of interest (ROI) around my LCD/LED Characters. How can I fix this?

Solution:
The IMAQ Read LCD VI needs a template in order to work properly. The IMAQ Read LCD VI should be preceded by the IMAQ Get LCD ROI VI with a template image that has all seven segments lit for every digit. For example, it should display 8888 for a four digit display. The output of the IMAQ Get LCD ROI VI is the ROI cluster that is passed to the IMAQ Read LCD VI as an input. This ROI is used for all subsequent images.

National Instruments recommends that you use the LCD Example VI as a starting point for all programs using this VI. As of Vision Development Module 2009, this example is located at:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabIEW x.x\examples\Vision\3. Applications

LCD Example VI uses the following image as the template:

This template image shows all seven segments lit for each digit.
