Error 12163 While Trying to Download Software to a Real Time Target

Problem: I installed software on my Real Time (RT) target sometime in the past. When I was looking at it today in Measurement and Automation Explorer it said that there was no software installed. When I tried to install the software, I got error 12163. What can I do to fix this?

Solution: Open Internet Explorer and click on the File menu. Check to see if the Work Offline item is checked. If it is, then uncheck it and press the Refresh button on the Software tab in Measurement and Automation Explorer for your RT target. It should now show all of the software that was installed.

This is caused by an ActiveX dependency between Internet Explorer and object used in Measurement and Automation Explorer to download the software. When Work Offline is checked, Internet Explorer blocks the network traffic coming in and out of itself and its related objects.

If the Work Offline menu item is NOT checked, check to see if you have a firewall installed that may be blocking FTP or other ports. Try turning the firewall off and see if the software will download correctly.

If the above suggestions do not resolve the problem, please initiate a support request at http://www.ni.com/ask and speak with an Applications Engineer.
