Archived: Changing the Gateway Communication Channel Does Not Automatically Change Node Channels

This document has been archived and is no longer updated by National Instruments

Hardware: Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Gateways>>NI WSN-9791, Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Gateways, Wireless Sensor Network>>WSN Nodes

Problem:
I have determined that the current communication channel my network is using has poor performance.  However, after changing the communication channel in MAX, the nodes will no longer join.  Why is this happening?

Solution:
When the network channel for the gateway is changed in MAX, the nodes will not automatically change to the new channel.  In fact, they will continue to search for a gateway on the same channel they were last communicating on.

If the network channel must be changed after the network is configured, you must press and hold the connect button for at least 5 seconds on each node to allow them to reconnect on a new channel.  As a result, it is recommended that the channels are all inspected for traffic before a large network is configured.
