Issue Details

I want to change the name of my device, and not the alias name, in NI MAX.

Can I change NI device name? 

Solution

NI MAX identifies each device name given to it by the driver of that device. For instance, the module NI PXIe-5114 name is provided by the NI-SCOPE driver. Therefore there is no way to rename the device names that appear in NI MAX.
 

Additional Information

The device names appear to the left of the device's alias names in NI MAX.

You can change the device alias name in NI MAX, by right-clicking the device you want to rename and selecting Rename, or programmatically, as shown in the following article Programmatically Finding Device Name of DAQ Device in System in LabVIEW.

You can use NI System Configuration functions API to detect the devices connected to the computer as shown in the following article Programmatically Find NI Devices Using LabVIEW.
