Why is an Identification Query Not Working in Some IVI Drivers for Agilent Instruments?

Problem: Whenever I try to run my IVI Driver for my Agilent instrument, the program stops because the ID query failed. Why is this?

Solution: In some IVI drivers that were developed for Hewlett-Packard instruments, the ID query will fail because Agilent Technologies changed the firmware and the strings (identification codes) do not match anymore. These drivers need to be updated to recognize the identification code in both cases. A workaround to this firmware modification is to turn off the ID query in the Initialize (or Initialize with Options) function in your Instrument Driver.
