How Do I Use Lookout as an OPC Server?

Primary Software: Lookout
Primary Software Version: 5.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
How do I use Lookout as an OPC Server?

Solution:
Lookout has an OPC Server called National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer. Lookout automatically serves up all of the data members of every object in any Lookout process that is currently running.

To use it as an OPC Server in LabVIEW, with the LabVIEW DSC Module installed, follow these steps:
  1. Open Lookout and create a new process
  2. Add your PLC driver object to this process and configure it.  Once this is done, deploy the process

If using LabVIEW 8.0 or greater, simply add a new OPC I/O Server and select National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer.  You should then be able to create bound variables from this server.

If using a version of LabVIEW earlier than 8.0:

  1. Open LabVIEW and add a numeric control to the front panel
  2. Right click on the control and choose Data Operations»DataSocket Connection...
  3. Click on Browse and choose to Browse Measurement Data
  4. Under My Computer click National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer
  5. You should now see your process listed along with the objects (including the object communicating with your PLC) that are running within that process
  6. Bind the control to the appropriate data member list under the PLC Driver Object
