Do I Need to Purchase IA OPC Server to Work With LabVIEW DSC if I Already Have Lookout?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>DSC Module
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Lookout

Problem: I recently purchased LabVIEW DSC to take advantages of the its programming capabilities. I need to communicate with my PLC which I was able to do earlier with Lookout. Can I still use Lookout as the OPC Server or do I need to purchase IA OPC?

Solution:
  1. You do not need to purchase IA OPC to act as an OPC Server. You can use Lookout as easily. To do so follow these steps:
  2. Open Lookout and create a new process
  3. Add your PLC driver object to this process and configure it. Once this is done, deploy the process
  4. Now, open LabVIEW and add a numeric control to it
  5. Right click on the control and choose Data Operations>DataSocket Connection...
  6. Click on 'Browse' and choose to 'Browse Measurement Data'
  7. Under 'My Computer' click on 'National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer'
  8. You should now see your process listed along with the objects (including the object communicating with your PLC) that are running within that process
  9. Bind the control to the appropriate data member list under the PLC Driver Object
