Windows is Unable to Find the Driver for GPIB-USB Devices

Hardware: GPIB>>External Controllers/Convertors>>GPIB-USB-A

Problem:
When I plug in my GPIB-USB device, Windows comes up with a "New Hardware Found" window, but is not able to find a suitable driver. Why is this happening?

Solution:
It is likely that you need a version of NI-488.2 which supports your GPIB-USB device. For a list of current NI-488.2 drivers that support the GPIB-USB-A, GPIB-USB-B and GPIB-USB-HS devices, refer to the GPIB Installation/Configuration Troubleshooter page. A link for this page has also been provided below. To help determine which one you are using, the GPIB-USB-B and GPIB-USB-HS devices have a blue head and the GPIB-USB-A device has a black head.

To install your GPIB-USB-A/B/HS device, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the driver CD and choose Install Software
  2. In the Add GPIB Hardware Wizard, select Plug & Play Interface and click next
  3. Select Restart and click Finish
  4. Once your computer boots, install your hardware by connecting the USB cable to your computer
  5. Windows should detect new hardware and automatically find and attach the NI-488.2 driver to the newly found hardware.
  6. Run the NI-488.2 Getting Started Wizard located in All Programs»National Instruments»NI-488.2

Note: GPIB-USB-A/B/HS devices are not supported in Windows 95 and NT.
Note: GPIB-USB-A is now obsolete and can no longer be purchased through National Instruments. For more information about this product, please refer to the data sheet for the GPIB-USB-B, the product page for the GPIB-USB-HS (linked below), or to the manual that shipped with your GPIB-USB-A device.
