Archived: Error -30 in the TestStand Deployment Utility in TestStand 2010 or Previous Versions

This document has been archived and is no longer updated by National Instruments

Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: 2010
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: TestStand

Problem:
After installing multiple patches on my machine, when I launch the TestStand Deployment Utility the Status Log of the Build Status tab displays the following error:

An Error Has Occurred
Error Code:-30
TestStand - Deployment Utility Splash Screen.vi >> TestStand - Distribution Wizard GUI.vi >> TestStand - Load Engine Parts from Ini File.vi >> TestStand - Process Engine Info Dependencies.vi >> TestStand - Find Direct Engine Info Dependencies.vi >> TestStand - Get Dependent Products.vi >> MDFProdPreview_shAddProductDone.vi

I also noticed that when I build a deployment, I receive the following error:

**************
*** Error: Improper function call or command line argument. (Error code -30)
**************
*** Error Details:
Error in MDF API function: _MDFProdPreview_AddProductDone
Index value 1 is too high. The list size is 1.
*** End Error Report
**************

The installer completes successfully, but I am concerned that I am seeing this error.  What is the cause of this error?

Solution:
This error will likely appear if you have multiple patches installed for the same version of TestStand and it is caused by a bug in components used by the TestStand Deployment Utility. This error will not negatively affect your installer and can be ignored.  The issue is fixed in TestStand 2010 SP1.

Note:
If your installer is not completing successfully, you are likely encountering one of the issues addressed in the articles below:
