Why Can't I Communicate With My Instrument After Attaching a GPIB Analyzer to the Bus?

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>AT-GPIB/TNT+

Problem: Why do my instrument and controller communicate correctly until a GPIB Analyzer (PCI-GPIB+, PCMCIA-GPIB+, or AT-GPIB/TNT+) is attached to the bus?

Solution: The problem in this case is the GPIB settings on the GPIB Analyzer PC. The analyzer needs to be set to an address which is not used by either the controller or any other instrument on the bus (Address 1 is usually a good choice since the controller defaults to zero and most instruments don't default to 1). The GPIB Analyzer also needs to have the "System Controller" box unchecked (failure to do this may result in ECIC errors). Both of these settings can be changed from the properties of the GPIB interface in MAX. If the settings fail to take effect, refresh Measurement and Automation Explorer (F5) and restart the computer.
