Install Hardware Support Prompt When Installing NI Software

  • VeriStand

Issue Details

When I try to install LabVIEW, VeriStand, or other NI software, I receive one of the following (or equivalent) dialog boxes at the end of installation:

You must install the appropriate device drivers in order to add support for your hardware in LabVIEW. Even if you installed device drivers with a previous version of LabVIEW, you must install them again with the current version of LabVIEW to ensure hardware support.

Install NI Device Drivers now? Insert the NI Device Drivers CD to install now. If you want to install additional NI software, or if you do not have this CD, you can install NI device drivers later.

At the bottom of either dialog box, there is the following message highlighted in red text:

The specified folder does not contain the correct volume.

What does this dialog box mean and which option should I select?

Solution

This message appears so that you can install any NI hardware driver software at the same time as LabVIEW or other NI software. If you have an installer for your hardware drivers, navigate to the installer's folder and select Install Support. Installers for hardware drivers can either be downloaded from the NI website or be in the form of physical media such as a CD, DVD, or USB. The message in highlighted in red will disappear once you have browsed to a location that contains NI hardware drivers.

If you do not have any hardware drivers on your machine at this time, you may click Decline Support and proceed with your installation as normal. The software installation will skip installing drivers and continue installing.

Additional Information

  • Hardware drivers may be installed at a later time without any problems. The option above is offered for convenience.
  • In the future, if you find you are missing certain device drivers, they can be downloaded from the NI website.
  • If you have clicked Decline Support and the NI software successfully installs, but does not open properly, check to see if your version of the NI software and your operating system are compatible.
