How Can I Create a Polymorphic VI on my FPGA Target?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>FPGA Module
Primary Software Version: 8.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:

I am trying to create a polymorphic VI on an FPGA target that I have inside of my project, but I don’t see the option anywhere when I right-click on the target and navigate to the New menu. I thought that polymorphic VI’s were supported for FPGA targets, but it doesn’t appear that they are. Are these VI’s supported? If so, how do I create one for my target?

Solution:

Yes, polymorphic VI’s are supported for FPGA targets. The way to create these VI’s for FPGA targets is to create them inside of the project under the host computer first and then move them under the FPGA target. The VI can be created for the host by right-clicking on My Computer and going to the New… menu. Figure 1 shows how to navigate to this window from a project where a CompactRIO and FPGA target are already present.

From the dialog box that shows up, you can select Polymorphic VI to create the VI for the host. After creating the VI, simply drag the VI to be under the FPGA target. Figure 2 demonstrates selecting Polymorphic VI from the New… dialog box.
