How do I Deploy LabVIEW 8.x.x Applications with NI Vision 8.x.x?
Primary Software:
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I created a LabVIEW 8.x.x application using NI Vision 8.x.x
and purchased a deployment license. How do I get it running on a target computer?
Solution: The Vision Run-Time Engine installer is copied to a development computer when Vision 8.x.x Development Module is installed. By default, it is copied to the
Program Files\National Instruments\Vision\Run-Time Engine directory.
You can choose to either install the Run-time on the target computer manually or include it for automatic installation with your deployment.
To install the Vision Run-Time Engine manually on your target machine:
- Copy the executable to your target machine. Again, this executable will be installed in the above location on machines with the Vision development Module, or it can be extracted from the attached .zip files. The file name will be visionXXrte.exe, where XX corresponds to the version of Vision you are using.
- Run the executable to install the Vision Run-Time Engine. During installation you will be prompted for a serial number corresponding to your Vision Deployment License. (This is a 9-digit alpha-numeric code that comes with the CD.) After installation, you will be prompted to activate the Run-Time. If you choose not to activate immediately, the Run-Time will run in Evaluation mode for 30 days.
- Copy your LabVIEW executable to your target machine.
- Double-click on your LabVIEW executable to run your application.
To include the Vision Run-time Engine with your deployment using the LabVIEW installer for executables:
- Download one of the attached ZIP files and unzip it to the \Program Files\National Instruments\Vision\Run-Time Engine\Distribution folder. Choose the version that corresponds to your version of the Vision Development Module. For instance, if you are using Vision 8.5, use Vision85RTE.zip.
- Run the setup.exe file inside the folder to install it on your development system. This lets LabVIEW see the engine when populating the "Additional Installers" list. (Note: You wil be asked to activate the Run-Time Engine. You do NOT have to do this, since the Vision Development Module is already installed on your development machine.)
- After installing, reboot your system.
- Follow the steps for building a LabVIEW Installer. Now when you create a new LV installer, the list of Additional Installers will include "NI Vision Run-Time Engine 8.x".
