How to Externally Access Data on the CompactFlash Memory of a Compact FieldPoint Controller

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers>>cFP-2020, Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers>>cFP-2120

Problem:
I want to store my data to a file on the CompactFlash card of my Compact FieldPoint controller with my application. I then want to be able to take that CompactFlash card to multiple computers and access the flash memory as a disk. Do I need any extra National Instruments software to do this?

Solution:
No, you do not need additional software to access these cards like a standard drive. Compact FieldPoint conforms to the CompactFlash (CF) specification, meaning that the cards can be read by any device capable of reading standard CompactFlash cards. Therefore, to access the information on the CompactFlash card, you need the software to open the file, and an appropriate hardware adapter. For example, to read a text-based datalog file from a FieldPoint Controller's CompactFlash card, use a standard CompactFlash-to-USB adapter and a standard text editor (such as Windows' Notepad) to open the file. Some CompactFlash adapters may require drivers to operate correctly. Windows XP and Mac OS X have support for many CompactFlash adapters built in to the operating system.

CompactFlash adapters for different buses, including USB and PCMCIA, are available from standard electronics vendors.
