Problem: Is it possible to boot my Desktop ETS system into LabVIEW RT using a USB Flash drive? Solution: Using a USB Flash drive to boot into LabVIEW RT is supported in LabVIEW Real-Time versions 8.2 and later. You can boot and configure USB boot-capable desktop PCs using a USB key. However, you can not run the Phar Lap ETS operating system completely off of an external USB drive. The reason is due to the inherent jitter the USB drive, or any other external hardware, brings to the system. Booting PXI RT controllers to run Real-Time with a USB key is not supported. The PXI-818x and later controllers have the capability of booting into RT from the BIOS. Note: KnowledgeBase 355F5URA refers to using a USB Flash drive to boot a PXI controller with Windows OS.
