[c]FP-SG-140 Returns Noisy or Fluctuating Measurements

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Analog I/O Modules>>cFP-SG-140, FieldPoint>>Analog I/O Modules>>FP-SG-140

Problem:
Why does my [c]FP-SG-140 return noisy or fluctuating measurements?

Solution:
National Instruments recently discovered that revision G and earlier FieldPoint and Compact FieldPoint [c]FP-SG-140 modules can exhibit abnormal fluctuation in their readings.

If you want to check if your [c]FP-SG-140 is affected, please do the following:
  • Connect a strain gauge to any channel and maintain the strain gauge at a constant level of strain.
  • Using Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), take several sequential measurements on the channel. The problem will appear as large fluctuations in the measurements. Although MAX will not return a graph like the one shown below, the measurements will change very rapidly as shown in the graph.

Modules that do not exhibit this behavior during testing may still be affected by this issue and could behave this way at a later time. Therefore, National Instruments recommends that you return revision G and earlier modules to be updated.

You do not need to verify the error before returning your modules to National Instruments.

National Instruments has updated the [c]FP-SG-140 firmware to prevent data corruption that can result in fluctuating measurements.

If you want to have your modules updated, please call National Instruments at 1-877-493-2407 to obtain a service request number and to arrange shipping. National Instruments will repair the affected products at no cost to you.

Please accept our apology for the inconvenience. National Instruments is committed to your total satisfaction and to maintaining your confidence in our products. If you have any technical questions or concerns, please call 1-877-493-2406 and ask to speak with an Applications Engineer.
